SGT Shawn Evans while serving in the infantry with 10th mtn. division was in an ambush in Nangalam, Afghanistan on the Pakistan border. Chinese Machine Guns forced him to lay with his face in the dirt for 45 long minutes while rpgs thudded around him. Grabbing a 240 machine gun from a fallen comrade, exposing him self to murderous fire while he freed the jammed mechanism of the weapon, he then returned fire, suppressing the enemy force (made them put THEIR  heads in the dirt) causing them to break contact & end the ambush. 

       For his heroism Shawn was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Valor...& believe it or no it happened  37 years TO THE DAY.. when Steve received his 1st Bronze Star for Valor in a battle on the Cambodian border...Aug 11, 1969. In his battle Steve saw his friend SSG Sam SMALL Jr. fall beside him. In HIS battle...Shawn also lost a buddy. His friends name was PFC. Andrew SMALL.

       SGT Daniel Green, while serving as an infantryman with 2/508th, 82nd airborne in Afghanistan was on patrol when his platoon was ambushed by al quaeda & taliban forces. His gunner was trapped in the turret when young Dan leaped out of their vehicle, leaving the relative safety of his armor behind, exposing himself to the enemy to return fire. Due to their aggressiveness under fire, Dan & his fellow soldiers turned the ambush into a total disaster for the enemy, killing 10 & wounding 17 while suffering NO casulties themselves.
For his actions he was awarded a Bronze Star for Valor... Now get this...this event took place...

38 Years TO THE DAY... that Steve Ray was awarded a Bronze Star... Aug 17th, 1969!  This was the second occasion that Steve Ray was awarded a Bronze star for heroism in combat.
